TEXTUAL CONCEPT :

I have always been drawn to fashion thats more on the provocative and erotic side. I want to spark conversation and evoke feeling.

I’m currently taking a history of prostitution course and found it interesting to learn about the shift from goddess culture (the matriarchy) to the patriarchal system we know today. Women were once honored and worshipped for their fertility and ability to connect with nature. That is not the story we are told today, we live in a society thats placed control and villianized the very thing women were once worshipped for -- the symbol of the feminine body and its miraculous ability to control life.

For this project, I decided to take inspiration from that idea. I desire to capture how women's sexuality and power is viewed today as “dark feminine energy”, while still maintaining undertones of the true soft femininity that once was. I plan to capture this all through a “90s supermodel” lens with references to 60s fashion trends as well. Through styling, I plan to capture this feeling by mixing harsh textures like leather, metal and black mesh with softer more sensual textures such as feathers and silky looking velvet. I intend to include bold pops of red, wet looking hair, leopard print and dramatic eye makeup.

To add another layer, I desire to play with the idea of escapism and ecstasy. When I think of these words the energy I feel is chaotic, raw and otherworldly. I plan to evoke this feeling -- along with all of the fashion styling choices I’ve made -- through harsh flash photography, a mixture of vivid color and black and white photos, shot on my pink digital camera from circa 2010. To add an extra bit of candidness and excitement, I decided to photograph look #2 completely in the dark!

My goal is to captivate the audience in a trance, much like a siren or goddess would do.
